For off-piste enthusiasts, it offers exciting opportunities to explore untouched powder and backcountry skiing. There's several other "Back door" resorts to stay instead of Megeve and ski the Massif St. Nicolas de Veroce is a charming ski resort nestled in a perpendicular valley. St. Gervais Mont-Blanc is a slightly larger and lively ski resort connected to the Evasion Mont Blanc ski area. It offers an impressive network of slopes and is one of the largest linked ski areas in the country. Les Sybelles is made up of six resorts, including Le Corbier, Saint Sorlin d'Arves, La Toussuire, Saint Jean d'Arves, Les Bottières, and Saint Colomban des Villards, all of which are interconnected by lifts and pistes. As ever, the resorts differ wildly. Le Corbier What it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in convenience and value. Le Corbier is a purpose-built resort from the 1960s, the majority of the accomodation is on the snowfront which sits at 1500m with a series of high-rises. Everything is connected by walkways at ground level under the apartment blocks, in which the hire shops and supermarkets and resturants sit - there is no luxury expected here, it's basic 1960s aesthetics of brown tile and white walls. There's a small selection of Chalets at either end of the resort, but the bulk of accomodation is functional self catered apartments. The après-ski scene in Le Corbier is limited, there's one club that opens during peak times and then there's a handful of small bars - you can grab a pint but not a dance. You can however grab a swim in the resorts heated outdoor pool, or chill in the spa. The local slopes cater well to beginners, with a dedicated area for progression and a selection of green and blues back to resort. It connects to the other areas across a ridge which offers amazing views across the area, but beware the drag lifts shutting in high winds due to the exposed nature. Saint Sorlin d'Arves Saint Sorlin d'Arves is a charming and traditional village with a relaxed atmosphere. It retains its authentic Alpine character with wooden chalets and farmhouses. The après-ski scene in Saint Sorlin d'Arves is more laid-back, with cozy bars and restaurants. The local slopes offer a good variety for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, including access to the highest part of the area that retains its snow conditions even on warm weeks and one of the very few challenging pistes on the area. La Toussuire La Toussuire is the biggest resort on the area. There's no denying this is an amazing value deal with everything you need to get one the slopes & learn included. Chalet Armaillis is a series of appartments and we take over the ground floor which has large communal areas (a massive sofa!), wifi throughout and has regularly refurbished and nicely appointed rooms – there is a choice between twin / double rooms and 4 person (same sex) rooms. The accomodation is 30 seconds from the Super Morzine lift and 4 minutes on foot to the main Pleney gondola. We also have access to the sauna, which is real good after a day on the slopes. La Grange d’Alice is a genuine 200 year-old ‘chalet d’alpage’ that has been carefully restored using old, locally sourced materials, it also boasts new fittings and modern facilities such as solar-powered under-floor heating. On the ground floor you’ll find the large open plan kitchen/dining/living area and two bedrooms. There’s underfloor heating throughout the ground floor (mainly solar powered).
