The resort is a combination of two separate villages: Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors, which together provide a charming and authentic alpine experience. It's proximity to Grenoble makes it a favourite with locals and it gets busy on weekends due to the quick commute. Villard de Lans, one of the oldest ski resorts in France, has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. It started as a traditional mountain village and has evolved into a well-established ski destination. In contrast, Corrençon en Vercors is a smaller and quieter village with a more relaxed atmosphere. The ski area of Espace Villard Corrençon is easily accessible from both villages. However, it's worth noting that all the skiing is below 2000m , with majority above 1500m it should maintain relatively good conditions, but the return runs and beginners areas below are likely to be impacted by low snow seasons or high temperatures at the beginning and end of the season. Après-ski The après-ski scene in Villard de Lans and Corrençon en Vercors is decent, with a variety of bars, restaurants, and cafes but doesn't match the experience of larger resorts. Espace Villard Corrençon is well-suited for a beginner / intermediate cust skier, it's likely that advanced skiers could tire of the area relatively quickly due to the small size, but there's a decent selection of red runs across the resort. With its high altitude Gurgl offers excellent snow conditions all season long. The resort has a rich history, with Obergurgl being a traditional mountain village that has been welcoming winter sports enthusiasts since the late 19th century. Over the years, it has evolved into a modern ski resort while still retaining its alpine charm. Hochgurgl , on the other hand, is a purpose-built resort situated at a higher elevation, offering convenient access to the slopes. Development has expanded both, with the majority of the area covered with hotel complexes. Gurgl boasts a well-developed lift system that provides easy connections to the ski area, technically 2 areas connected by the ""Top Express"" Gondola. Beginners can find gentle nursery slopes and dedicated learning areas, while intermediate skiers have a wide range of well-groomed runs to explore - the bulk of the area is covered in blue runs. Advanced skiers and freeriders can challenge themselves on the steeper slopes, off-piste areas, and mogul fields. On a powder day it's less likely to be tracked out due to the family focus of the ski area. Gurgl is not known for its apres scene, the Nederhutte kicks off apres on the side of the piste and you can get karted down on a snowmobile if you apres a bit too hard. Other than this, the apres scene is focused mainly around the hotel bars as people settle back in for the evening.
