- Ski holidays in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis
Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis Austria Europe Heart Landeck Serfaus Fiss Ladis Km piste Min Height (m) Max Height (m) 186 1200 2828 Sub Area Multi-Area Collection No No Description Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is a renowned ski resort located in the Austrian Alps, specifically in the Tyrol region. This ski area is known for its extensive slopes, modern facilities, and family-friendly atmosphere. However, this is also one of the BEST areas for advanced on-piste skiing and easily accessable off piste. It's actually Vic (the authors) favourite ski area in Europe (so far). No other resort has kept me interested for so long on-piste. Serfaus, Fiss, and Ladis were originally traditional farming villages but have been transformed into a ski paradise while preserving their Tyrolean heritage. The architecture mainly reflects the traditional Austrian alpine style, with pitched chalet roofs, painted window frescos and plastered exteriors. Serfaus sits at one end, almost car free due to a large parking area before the only alpine underground service! Takes you up to the resort. There's 4 stops depending on where your accomodation is relative to the main gondolas. This resort sits at the base of a towering bowl that has the best connections to the advanced terrain that the area has to offer. There are efficient lift systems and gondolas that connect the villages and provide quick access to the various ski areas. Fiss sits in the middle of the three, its suitable for groups who want a bit of everything, and Ladis sits the lowest of them all - connected to Fiss by a Gondola, from which you then change to go up into the ski area. The Fiss-Ladis connection area is host to a huge beginners learning zone , from which you can ski down to Ladis at the end of the day, either locations are therefore great for groups with a lot of beginners. If you stay in the old-town part of Fiss (to the "right") as you look at a piste map, not only will you be surrounded by charming old farm buildings , but you can walk up the hill a short way, or even get accomodation right at the foot of the beginners hill, meaning you get a short button lift up to the meeting point or to ski, instead of walk, to the main gondolas. All 3 resorts in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis area are particularly suitable for families. The resort has a strong focus on providing family-friendly amenities and activities, including dedicated children's areas, ski schools, and childcare services. This however, should not put all adult groups off - the advanced terrain and challenging red slopes make for a very enjoyable area to explore. - Ski holidays in Jungfrau (combined)
Jungfrau (combined) Switzerland Europe Heart Grindelwald Lauterbrunnen Interlaken Ost Lauterbrunnen Grindelwald Murren Winteregg Km piste Min Height (m) Max Height (m) 213 795 2970 Sub Area Multi-Area Collection No Yes Description The Jungfrau region is a renowned ski destination located in the Swiss Alps, consisting of three popular ski resorts: Grindelwald, Wengen, and Mürren. Together, they form the Jungfrau ski area, offering an impressive range of skiing opportunities with breathtaking views of the iconic Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. Grindelwald, one of the largest resorts in the area, is a charming alpine town with a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. Its traditional Swiss architecture and cozy atmosphere make it a favorite among visitors seeking an authentic ski experience, athough some argue it can feel "touristy" especially in peak weeks. The ski area is accessible directly from the village, there's 2 accessable areas from the town - The shared Kleine Scheidegg area with Wengen, Allemend and Wengeralp and the Grindlewald-First area on the opposite mountain face. Kleine Scheidegg can be accessed by the sceneic funicular railway or the much quicker Eiger Express gondola straight to the top. From here you have access to the whole area, most of which is located on the Grindelwald face. Don't forget to take the funicular right to the top of the Jungfraujoch and experience the top of Europe at 3454m (no pistes from here though) Grindlewald-First area has the best mix of features in the area, with a multiperson zip line, the longest taboggan run, free ride pistes, speed checks, half pipe and snowpark. From both you can ski back to Grindelwald. Additionally, the resort boasts an excellent après-ski scene with a variety of bars, restaurants, and lively entertainment options to unwind after a day on the slopes. Wengen, located on a sunny terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, is a car-free village and a popular destination for families and intermediate skiers. It has a long history as a ski resort, dating back to the late 19th century. To access the ski area from Wengen, skiers can take the Wengernalpbahn train directly to Eiger Glacier and the slopes of the Kleine Scheidegg or the Wengen-Mannlichen gondola . Wengen also has a pleasant après-ski scene, with cozy mountain huts and terraces where visitors can enjoy a warm drink or indulge in local Swiss cuisine while taking in the magnificent views. You ski back along the funicular tracks down the valley from the Eiger glacier, stopping in Wengeralp or Allmend for an apres drink. Mürren, perched on a sunny plateau overlooking the Lauterbrunnen Valley, is a picturesque mountain village and the highest resort in the Jungfrau region. This traditional village has a rich ski history and offers a unique and tranquil ski experience. Skiers can reach the ski area by taking the Schilthornbahn cable car from Mürren. T he slopes in Mürren cater more to intermediate and advanced skiers, with a range of challenging runs and off-piste opportunities. The après-ski scene in Mürren is relatively low-key, with a few cozy bars and restaurants where visitors can relax and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the village. It's a relatively small local area, and you need to take the railway back down to Grutchalp, gondola to Lauterbrunnen and then transfer up to Wengen via the train to access the bigger ski area of Kleine Scheidegg. Staying in GRÜTSCHALP or Winteregg, that are lower down than Mürren but still access its ski area make the commute shorter. Overall, the Jungfrau ski area is a paradise for skiers of all levels. With its stunning alpine landscapes, varied terrain, and rich ski history, it offers an unforgettable experience. Whether you prefer a traditional village atmosphere in Grindelwald, a family-friendly environment in Wengen, or a tranquil mountain retreat in Mürren, the Jungfrau region has something to offer every type of skier. It's a truely unqiue ski area where you get to experience the true magic and unqiue atmosphere of a stereotypical Swiss ski holiday. The Lauterbrunnen Valley itself is meant to be well worth the visit summer or winter, its unqiue very high rock walls and many waterfalls makign it a haven for walkers.
