Zillertal Valley (SuperSki Pass) Austria Europe Heart Kaltenbach Aschau im Zillertal Zell am Ziller Mayrhofen Zell am Ziller Mayrhofen Gerlos Tux Königsleiten Hintertux Hochkrimml Finkenburg Kaltenbach Fugen Km piste Min Height (m) Max Height (m) 544 Sub Area Multi-Area Collection No Yes Description The Zillertal SuperSki Pass offers access to an extensive ski area located in the stunning Zillertal Valley of Austria. The entire valley has a railway system, making it easy to travel between sectors - there's 4 key areas to ski. First up is Hochzillertal-Hochfügen , this ski area is known for its excellent snow conditions and modern infrastructure. Purpose-built as a ski resort, Hochzillertal-Hochfügen is accessed from Kaltenbach and Hochfügen; Kaltenbach is the main settlement. There's very little in terms of town to walk around, as it's been purpose developed as a liftstation, around which hotels and self catering has been built. A small collection of bars are built around the return run and gondola station, enough to satisfy the need for the end of the day drink, but nothing to explore in the evenings. It's well suited to self catering , with a large supermarket right in the town. We highly recommend the Hotel Post - it's recent refurbishment is incredibly well done, with fantastic in and outdoor heated pools to enjoy in winter (exit through the sliding doors when already in the pool to the crisp mountain views) and the food standards are immaculate. For a great value stay, you can stay up the road in Aschau (return run is a black run for the end of the day) and get a short valley train to ski each day, the gondola is only a 5min walk from the station in Kaltenbach. We've got dedicated pages for the other 3 areas in the valley - check the links at the bottom of the page. Next up is the Zillertal arena in Zell am Ziller, this linear ski area connects to an adjacent valley. Mayrhofen is where the valley railway ends. Famous as a lively town, there's plenty of options for Après ski, with numerous bars, restaurants, and clubs catering to the needs of skiers and snowboarders. The resort also hosts the famous Snowbombing music festival, attracting partygoers from around the world and Alpitude, comedy festival on snow. Hintertux Glacier is located right at the end of the valley, at an altitude of 3,250 meters, it is one of Europe's few year-round ski areas, making it ideal for those seeking winter sports even in the summer months. The resort offers breathtaking views and a wide range of slopes suitable for all skill levels. While Hintertux itself is a small village, it provides easy access to the glacier via a modern lift system. The après ski scene here is more relaxed compared to Mayrhofen, mainly small bars and resturants or hotels. Overall, the Zillertal SuperSki Pass provides a diverse range of ski resorts to suit different preferences and skill levels. The interconnected nature of the ski area allows for seamless exploration and adventure, with ski buses and the valley railway available to transport visitors between resorts. With the Zillertal SuperSki Pass, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy a truly immersive and unforgettable alpine experience in the heart of Austria. - Ski holidays in Les Sybelles
Les Sybelles France Europe Heart Classics Memoirs Historical Fiction Novels Mysteries Comedy Le Corbier La Toussuire Les Bottières St Colomban des Villards St Sorlin St Jean d’Arves Km piste Min Height (m) Max Height (m) 310 1100 2620 Sub Area Multi-Area Collection No No Description Les Sybelles is a renowned ski area located in the French Alps, specifically in the Maurienne Valley. It offers an impressive network of slopes and is one of the largest linked ski areas in the country. Les Sybelles is made up of six resorts, including Le Corbier, Saint Sorlin d'Arves, La Toussuire, Saint Jean d'Arves, Les Bottières, and Saint Colomban des Villards, all of which are interconnected by lifts and pistes. As ever, the resorts differ wildly. Le Corbier What it lacks in aesthetics it makes up for in convenience and value. Le Corbier is a purpose-built resort from the 1960s, the majority of the accomodation is on the snowfront which sits at 1500m with a series of high-rises. Everything is connected by walkways at ground level under the apartment blocks, in which the hire shops and supermarkets and resturants sit - there is no luxury expected here, it's basic 1960s aesthetics of brown tile and white walls. There's a small selection of Chalets at either end of the resort, but the bulk of accomodation is functional self catered apartments. The après-ski scene in Le Corbier is limited, there's one club that opens during peak times and then there's a handful of small bars - you can grab a pint but not a dance. You can however grab a swim in the resorts heated outdoor pool, or chill in the spa. The local slopes cater well to beginners, with a dedicated area for progression and a selection of green and blues back to resort. It connects to the other areas across a ridge which offers amazing views across the area, but beware the drag lifts shutting in high winds due to the exposed nature. Saint Sorlin d'Arves Saint Sorlin d'Arves is a charming and traditional village with a relaxed atmosphere. It retains its authentic Alpine character with wooden chalets and farmhouses. The après-ski scene in Saint Sorlin d'Arves is more laid-back, with cozy bars and restaurants. The local slopes offer a good variety for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, including access to the highest part of the area that retains its snow conditions even on warm weeks and one of the very few challenging pistes on the area. La Toussuire La Toussuire is the biggest resort on the area. The town features a mix of modern and traditional architecture, with a good selection of chalets pisteside and a more mixed offer of hotel and self catering options. The après-ski scene is relaxed, with a focus on family activities and entertainment but there's still a selection of bars for the adults to unwind. The local slopes provide the widest range of skiing options, including gentle slopes for beginners and challenging runs for experienced skiers, this is valuable when you don't want to venture too far. Saint Jean d'Arves, Les Bottières and Saint Colomban des Villards The next 3 resorts sit more on the perifery of the area at low altitude, so outside of peak season the snow conditions are a gamble. They also have almost no local slopes, requiring connection to other areas to ski. Saint Jean d'Arves, Les Bottières and Saint Colomban des Villards are all quaint and secluded villages known for their tranquility and natural beauty. They feature traditional Alpine architecture with charming chalets with quiet apres scenes. I'm a paragraph. Km piste Min Height (m) Max Height (m) 115 Sub Area Multi-Area Collection No Yes Description Chamonix is one of the most iconic ski resorts in the world, nestled in the French Alps near the borders of Switzerland and Italy. Renowned for its challenging terrain and breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Western Europe, Chamonix offers an unforgettable skiing experience. Chamonix is not a purpose-built ski resort but a traditional alpine town with a rich history. It has been attracting mountaineers and skiers since the late 18th century, making it one of the oldest ski destinations. The town has a charming atmosphere with narrow streets, picturesque squares, and traditional Savoyard architecture, blending seamlessly with the stunning natural surroundings. The ski area of Chamonix is divided into several distinct areas, each offering unique skiing opportunities. Due to the size of the town and the spread of the ski areas, you'll likely be using the local ski buses that connect the different sectors. The main ski areas include Brevent/Flegere, Grands Montets and Le Tour/Balme none of these areas are particularly large in size, but you have the ability to switch daily depending on where the best conditions are. Chamonix is known for its challenging and varied terrain, making it particularly suitable for advanced and expert skiers . The resort is famous for its off-piste and backcountry skiing opportunities, attracting adrenaline-seeking skiers and snowboarders from around the globe. The Vallée Blanche is a legendary off-piste descent starting from the Aiguille du Midi. This stunning 20-kilometer route takes skiers through breathtaking glacial terrain, offering magnificent views of the Mont Blanc massif. It requires a guide and suitable equipment due to crevasses and other hazard. La Tour is a picturesque ski area with notable off-piste possibilities. From the top of the ski lifts, it's possible to explore various routes through tree-lined slopes and open powder fields. La Tour is ideal for those seeking off-piste adventures in a more relaxed setting. Glacier du Tour is a popular ski touring destination, attracting experienced skiers and mountaineers. The route starts from the Col de Balme and involves traversing glaciers, ascending steep slopes, and navigating crevassed areas. It rewards with stunning panoramic views and a challenging but rewarding journey. However, the on piste options are more than good enough for beginners and intermediates, the majority being just as managable as any other resort. If anything, we'd say if you're going to be mainly sticking to the piste, we'd say there are far better ski experiences available to you. If you buy the larger Mont blanc ski pass, you've access to more - but these require further travel outside of the Chamonix capture area to other resorts such as Les Houches- Saint Gervais, Megeve, Vallorcine, Courmayeur and Verbier. After a thrilling day on the slopes, Chamonix offers a vibrant après-ski scene. The town is bustling with bars, restaurants, and cafes where skiers can unwind and socialize. The atmosphere is lively, and you can find everything from cozy pubs with live music to sophisticated wine bars, micro brewaries and nightclubs, due to its size you can always find something to suit you. St. Anton, the largest hub of Ski Arlberg, is a traditional town with a rich skiing history. It was one of the pioneering ski resorts to develop modern alpine skiing and has since become a world-famous destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The resort offers a vibrant apres ski scene with numerous bars, clubs, and restaurants, this resort has big town energy and you shouldn't be seeking a quaint, quiet atmosphere from your ski holiday, although I am sure you can achieve this if you retreat every day to one of the many luxury full board hotels. The legendary Mooserwirt and Krazy Kanguruh are two popular apres ski spots where skiers gather to enjoy live music, dancing, and drinks. They are world famous for setting the 'standard' for apres parties, athough there are several resorts and institutions now that would argue their case. St. Christoph , situated just above St. Anton, is a smaller and quieter annex with a more exclusive atmosphere. It is home to the famous Arlberg Hospiz Hotel, a luxury establishment with a long-standing history. Lech and Zürs, located on the other side of the mountain from St. Anton, offer a more sophisticated and upscale experience. These resorts have attracted royalty, celebrities, and discerning skiers for many years. The apres ski scene here is more relaxed and centered around elegant lounges, cozy bars, and gourmet restaurants. These resorts also sit in the middle of the huge web of ski runs that make up the interconnected Ski Arlberg area, so they're your best bet if the order of the day is to ski as many of the km that the area has to offer. Stuben, the smallest of the Ski Arlberg resorts, is a charming village with a cozy atmosphere. It is well-connected to the ski slopes and provides a more laid-back and authentic skiing experience. Although the apres ski scene in Stuben is not as bustling as in St. Anton, there are still a few welcoming bars where skiers can unwind after a day on the slopes.
