Relax around the roaring log fire as you enjoy your freshly prepared afternoon tea and later move on to the separate dining room where your hosts will provide you with satisfying four-course dinners. There’s also small snug with comfy seating and a TV; a great second play area for children or perhaps a hideaway for adults to escape to, to watch a big game! Spectacular balcony views over Montriond and towards Morzine centre Outdoor hot tub Lounge area with superb open (or closed) log fire Secure ground level ski and boot storage room Cosy separate TV snug Six bedrooms can be configured as super kings or twins and the seventh room is a triple/family room. All rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated and have en suite facilities. The bedrooms are located on the ground and second floors, with the main living area on the first floor. The spacious lounge is on the first floor with large comfortable sofas surrounding a traditional roaring fire. At the other end of the lounge is the bar and big screen TV, where you can curl up and enjoy a film in the evening. Floor to ceiling windows make the space really bright and airy and give fantastic views across Morzine. The large south-facing balcony is accessed from the lounge and because it is south facing, the perfect sun trap during those sunny winter days. There is a separate dining area that leads onto the balcony overlooking the outdoor hot tub. Finally, the cosy TV snug and the ground floor secure ski and boot room. Tuesday and Thursday are the chalet days off. A continental buffet breakfast will be laid and we can recommend one of Morzine’s finest restaurants for these evenings. By The Solo Ski People Have you ever wanted to go skiing but didn’t have anyone to go with? Don’t let that stop you! As a beginner, skiing alone might seem daunting at first, but it’s absolutely possible. In fact, there are many options available to solo skiers who are just starting out. Dedicated Solo Ski Holidays for Beginners If you’re worried about being alone on the slopes, you can actually join a dedicated ski holiday for solo beginners. These trips provide the perfect combination of socialising and learning, in your own little bubble of people in the same shoes as you. Often hosted in a chalet, these weeks have everything organised for you. All you will need to do is organise your travel, the hire, passes, lessons, accommodation and food is all sorted. Your typical day will look like this: Get up - head downstairs to a lovely continental and cooked breakfast prepared by your chalet hosts. Get your gear on and head out to the ski school meeting point. Depending on your chalet, you'll either be shuttled off in a mini bus or walk/ take the ski bus. Learn under the watchful eyes of the instructor for half a day. Take a lunch break with your new friends then spend the afternoon practicing before you head to apres. Apres ski! Some people like to hit the bars, some like to head back to the chalet to grab the prepared afternoon tea, relax in a hot tub and take some time alone. There will always be someone who fits the same vibe as you. In the evenings you'll sit down to dinner together, enjoy 3-4 courses of freshly prepared food, and generally free flowing house wine and beer. Get up, rinse and repeat. However, there are still plenty of options available to you. You can go on a generic solo trip and book your own lessons for during the day. Social solo ski trips are open to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities, there's always a mix. That way you have skiers you can socialise with, some may even still be learning too. Often, group ski lessons are in the morning, so in the afternoon you'll have a group of people to meet up with and practice. Even if you don't - you will meet for apres and spend your evenings together. Just like the dedicated beginners weeks, a lot will be sorted for you (Hire, lift pass etc.) and you'll just need to add lessons. Don't know where to start booking lessons? Every ski resort has a ski school! Head to Maison Sport and select your resort, from there you can pick private lessons or group lessons. In the unlikely event that they don't cover your resort - your holiday provider will be more than happy to reccomend you a local ski school, so drop them a message when you enquire. What ski lessons should you pick? Private and group lessons both have their pros and cons. Private lessons will have you skiing much quicker than group ones, as they're tailored to you. Group lessons are cheaper, and for the extroverts amongst you, will provide a ready social group you can practice with after the lessons are done. Want to find a solo holiday... Learn to Ski in the UK Hear me out, I'm in no way suggesting you DON'T go on a ski holiday, what I am saying is consider getting lessons locally before you go. The learning curve to ski is exponential, meaning, the first few hours are steep but once you're semi-confidently on your feet, you can progress really quick. So a few hours in a snowdome or dryslope before the season begins (when its cheaper by the way) will go a long way. That way - you can still go on a beginners and improvers week, or a normal solos holiday, but when you get there you'll be able to see a lot more of the mountain and keep up with a lot more of your chalet peers. Pass price (euros) This is the 6 day ski pass price for an Adult* Price per km 6 day ski pass price divided by the number of skiable km in the pass area This is a value calculation used to compare the value of different size areas. The smaller the number, the better the value of the pass. Sub Area This area is a sub-section of a wider ski area or multi-area group. eg. Meribel is part of the 3 Valleys, but you can purchase a meribel-only pass. Some sub-areas look like poor value (price per km) because their multi-day pass covers the wider area and therefore you technically get more km/ euro. The ski area of Zell am See offers a combination of slopes on the Schmittenhöhe mountain and the nearby Kitzsteinhorn glacier in Kaprun. The town itself has a rich history and a charming old town center, stretching from the shores of Lake Zell, up the mountain. The main through route has been diverted underground now, so the traffic is much calmer. Skiers can access the slopes directly from several points in the town, making it convenient for a lot of the accomodation options. The apres-ski scene in Zell am See is more laid-back compared to its neighbours in Saalbach Hinterglemm. However, due to it's size it really has something for everyone, pick from a great selection of bars and resturants in the town. Kaprun Kaprun is a small village located in the Salzburg region of Austria. The main attraction of Kaprun is the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, which offers reliable snow conditions throughout the season. The glacier is accessible by a gondola from the village, it's particularly suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers who are looking for challenging terrain and off-piste opportunities. The village itself has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with traditional alpine charm. While the apres-ski scene in Kaprun is not as lively as in Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, there are still bars and restaurants where visitors can unwind after a day on the slopes. Skiing The direct area is 138km of slopes when combining Zell and Kaprun. The local area to Zell am See is tree lined, intermediate skiing, with a few challenging runs down to town - Not to mention stunning views of Lake Zell whilst you ski. Kapruns Glacier offers high altitude skiing no matter the time of the season, this is where you'll find the most challenges if you're an adrenalin seeker. You may have noticed we said there were 400+km of slopes That's because you have the nearby area of Ski Circus included in a Multi-day pass. Each of these resorts offers its own unique skiing experience, apres-ski scene, and attractions. When you buy a Multi-day pass over 2 days in any of these resorts, you automatically get full access to the area, the biggest connected area of which is the Saalbach Hinterglemm area. Zell am See can be accessed from the Saalbach valley by a short connecting ski bus from the extreme end of the ski area. Kaprun, again, is totally disconnected section that can be accessed by short Ski bus from Zell am See. Pass Access travel Closest Airports Salzburg Relative to a lot of Austrian resorts, it's a relatively long car transfer: 2hrs Salzburg or 2.5hrs from Innsbruck Transfers Direct Train Train + Bus Option Direct coach Yes Yes No Train Connections Zell am See You can get the train equally from Innsbruck or Salzburg to Zell am See. From Innsbruck it's more likely to be 2 trains (2hr) but direct services do exist. Salzburg it's 1.5hrs direct. Depending on where you're staying, you can switch to a regional train R33 to the outskirts of the town and Kaprun ( Fürth-Kaprun Bahnhof) or use the frequent bus services around town eg. 660 takes you to Kaprun in 20min. From Zell am See, various Buses will take you to Saalbach, Hinterglemm and the surrounding towns. Alternatively you can get a taxi the rest of the way.
